Arica, Chile
I took the 20 some hour trip towards Chile two days ago and arrived yesterday about mid-afternoon. I decided that since Bolivia and Brazil both charge me $130 just for the tourist visa that at least Brazil will have to wait until I cross the border of Argentina to Brazil. Crossing it twice doesnt seem to be the best move considering the economics. As for Chile it seems to be quite a bit different than what Ive seen in Peru and Ecuador. The prices resemble those of the States and the people speak so fast that I end up staring at them with a blank expression, complete lost in their half-pronunciated words. I met three colombians and I found that they too were left with the same expressions. Sadly I cant really remember their names, I believe one was Angela, the other was Julian but as for the short morena I cant remember her name. They told me of a place to say that charges $2000 pesos which ends up being around $20 soles or $10 USD. Imagine the conversion I have to do in my head everytime someone asks how much my jewlery costs. That is probably the most difficult thing that I am dealing with... in the end I was still able to pay for my hostel with the money I had made yesterday. Everything seems to be going well and the Chileans aside from having a fairly abrasive nature seems to be good people. I suppose Ill continue heading South and along the way find the two Chileans that I had traveled with from MontaƱita.
