So I have taken off from Montanita with a bit of nostalgia but definitely ready to move on. I made the journey back down with two Chileans that seemed to take life in like a kid with a new toy. They are extremely entertaining but their completely and utterly carefree life is a bit too much for my taste. They remind me of the cartoon characters Timon and Pumba, simply living without worries. The journey was fairly exhausting but the scenery was probably the most magical, breathtaking moments of my life. We traveled by the Nazca Lines where supposedly extraterrestrials had etched designs into the earth. Apart from the snowcapped mountains and the flush greenery along the road I was able to watch the extremely tiny indigenous men and women carry loads bigger than themselves straight up the mountain with their alpacas alongside. It is amazing the feeling you get when you can travel slowly through such a legendary landscape taking in every smell and taste that the land and culture can give. By the time I arrived in Cuzco I was absolutely frozen with a bit of a cold. The weather is quite similar to the pass from autumn to winter in the Black Hills... just without the snow. The architecture has a morjority of Spanish influence with the pre-incan temples remaining as the foundation of the buildings and churches. The houses are set barely hanging on to the steep mountainside and are made from a mixture of cement and clay which makes for quite a frigid night. I am able to drink the water from the faucet but taking a shower seems to be a greater challenge considering the water feels like it has barely melted from the snow above. Hopefully my brief break in travels will allow me to finally put my pictures up... I promise they are coming soon. All my love!
